From the desk of Events Coordinator Kasey Bielecki.

I remember being little and watching my parents in the kitchen. Mom was great at dinner and Dad was great at dessert. My love for cooking certainly came from my parents' involving me in the process. I used to love curling up on the floor with a bunch of cookbooks and convincing my mom and dad to try out a new recipe. My parents still have those cookbooks and I find myself often calling for a specific recipe.

What does my love of cooking have to do with Pope Memorial Humane Society? In honor of our 30th anniversary and our love for not only pets, but our community, we are putting together a community cookbook. It is going to be filled with recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. It will be the cookbook that you can rely on for tasty recipes tested by time and lots of family love.

All of the proceeds from our anniversary cookbook will go directly to Pope Memorial Humane Society. The time, love and patience put into every single recipe will allow us to continue to care for and make a difference in the lives of local homeless animals. The proceeds will allow us to continue to shower love, time and patience into our animals and ensure they all find perfect homes.

Animals like Sy, who has been at the shelter for far too long, more than 725 days. This shy girl came into the shelter pregnant, scared and fearful of people. Slowly but surely, she warmed up to us. A little fearful at first, once Sy gets to know you, she turns into a loving, devoted, gentle cat.

To submit some recipes for our limited edition 30th anniversary cookbook, simply drop them off at the shelter or email them to events@hskcme.org. Help us further our mission to save lives and create families all while you inspire more families to bake, cook, sauté, and enjoy the kitchen together!
