Camden — As school begins around the Midcoast, construction on the new Camden-Rockport Middle School means that students there will have an abbreviated vacation schedule for the upcoming year. While changes to the schedule, which include shortening Thanksgiving, Christmas, and February vacations, may seem daunting to some students and teachers, the school year will finish June 2, a full two weeks ahead of the elementary and high schools.

The changes to the schedule were made to allow more time for the demolition of the current middle school over the 2020 summer vacation and to allow teachers to pack and move out of their classrooms in preparation for the move into the new middle school next September, according to Superintendent Maria Libby.

Students will be given Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 27 to 29, off during the week of Thanksgiving and in February, when the other district schools will be off Feb. 17 through 21, middle school students will get only Monday and Tuesday off. Over the holidays, students will return to school Monday, Dec. 30, and receive only New Year's Day off during the week. April vacation will remain unchanged.

The calendar also states that school will not go past June 5 and that if there are more than three snow days, they will be made up on Saturdays or in an alternative way.
