Hope — Shirley Mae Perkins, 85, passed away Nov. 27, 2017, at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland. She was born May 15, 1932, in Whitefield to Elven Creamer and Annie (Jones) Creamer.

Shirley grew up in the Washington and Hope area and attended schools in Washington. She was a stay-at-home mom, raising her children and also ran an adult foster care home for 20 years. She also worked at the blueberry canning factory in Union.

Shirley loved going dancing at the Blue Goose. She especially loved being a mother and homemaker, cooking and taking care of her family. She was an independent, loving, feisty, big-hearted, strong-willed woman and loved her grandbabies.

She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Eugene L. Philbrook, sons Irving Philbrook, Eugene A. Philbrook, Robert L. Philbrook and granddaughter Kelly Lowe, sisters Frances Tibbetts and Hattie Hall.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 46 years, Virgil Perkins, of Hope; daughters Dale Martz and Dwinal Tripp of Union and Lisa Martin and husband Joseph of Warren, and Sharon Philbrook; daughter-in-law Dawn Hoche of St. George; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great,-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s name may be made to the Knox Center for Long Term Care, Attn: Carol Timberlake, 6 White St., Rockland, ME 04841, designate that donations will go to support the CNA program.
