Oct 29, 2019

Rockland — From November 7 through 14, Rockland Shambhala will host Fall Weekthun, a special weeklong meditation retreat with Rachel Nixon. Anyone may come for one day, several days, or the whole week. The offering will take place at 14 School Street, Rockland. Weekthun is open to the public, by donation. Preregistration is requested.

Fall Weekthun is a meditation retreat for new and experienced meditators. Weekthun includes group and individual instruction, sitting and walking meditation, dharma talks, group discussion, and shared meals. The program is designed to support participants in deepening their mindfulness-awareness practice and cultivating an open heart. The theme for the week is the Paramitas. A teaching of Mahayana Buddhism, the Paramitas – generosity, discipline, patience, exertion, meditation, and wisdom – are practical tools that help us in day-to-day life. Participants can plan for full days from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nixon was first introduced to Buddhist teachings in 1999. Over the years, she has developed a personal meditation practice and has trained at the Insight Meditation Society in Massachusetts, as well as Shambhala Meditation Centers in Maine, Vermont, New York, Colorado, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Nixon attended the seven-week Winter Yarne Retreat with Pema Chödrön at Gampo Abbey in 2019. She currently serves as the Director of Rockland Shambhala, and she is a trained Shambhala Path Meditation Instructor.

Rockland Shambhala is a non-profit Buddhist meditation group that meets at The Dancing Elephant in Rockland. For more information and to register for the program, visit rocklandyoga.com/program/fall-weekthun or contact Rachel Nixon at rocklandshambhala@gmail.com or 594-1694.
