Second-graders take part in fitness program

Thomaston — Second-grade students at Thomaston Grammar School are participating in a year long health and wellness project. Second-grade teachers Teresa Brewster and Terri Basset, along with physical education teacher Matt Petrie have teamed up with Hunter Grindle, owner of Hybrid Fitness in Thomaston, for the program.

Grindle will visit the second-grade classrooms three times during the school year, and the children will go to Hybrid Fitness three times as well. Students have had two classroom sessions with Grindle so far, and the school has purchased fitness equipment including ladders, kettlebells, medicine balls, mini-resistance bands and fitness dice wiht the help of a grant.

Students are working on building their stamina, strength and healthy habits.Teachers have also incorporated movement and stretching into their regular classroom routines.
