Local entrepreneur and farmer Carly Weinberg will lead a presentation on creating seaweed botanicals at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, June 17 at 12:00 noon.

Seaweed is an incredibly abundant, useful, and local natural resource that has many practical purposes. Weinberg’s presentation will highlight uses for seaweed in cooking, gardening, and for bath and beauty projects. Weinberg will also speak about the formation  and practices of her business Dulse & Rugosa, a company that creates botanical products out of seaweed and other wild-harvested and cultivated materials from its small island farm on Gotts Island. The island has no automobiles, stores, and is entirely solar-powered.

Weinberg attended the College of the Atlantic and has a degree in Human Ecology.  She has previously taught both middle school and high school.

This talk part of the 2014 Spring Talk series at Merryspring, sponsored by The First.  Merryspring is located at the end of Conway Road just off Route 1 by the Hannaford Super Market plaza.

Admission to Tuesday Talks is free for members of Merryspring, with a nominal fee of $5 for non-members.
