ScrapDogs Community Compost to launch operations

Jun 12, 2018

Camden — ScrapDogs Community Compost will launch its pilot operations on June 29. The young organization aims to collect local food scraps and organics from homes, restaurants, and landscaping companies. They will process the waste at a local greenhouse and convert it into compost for their customers.

According to a 2011 report from the University of Maine, about 39 percent of Maine’s waste is organic and could be composted instead of sent to a landfill or an incinerator. Communities that pay for their waste to be carted away could eliminate a significant portion of their disposal costs simply by supporting and installing composting infrastructure.

ScrapDogs Community Compost will host an educational seminar on their work -- and celebrate the launch of their operations with the public - on June 29. They will cover the basic principles of their compost pickup program and how community members can become involved.

The event will be held at Flatbread Company, 399 Commercial St., Rockport, from 5 to 9 p.m. To RSVP, email hello@scrapdogscompost.com.
