School emergency drills set for Dec. 11

Dec 04, 2019

Public schools in Camden and Rockport will be conducting a joint emergency drill Dec. 11 that will begin at the high school and include an offsite reunification at the Pitch on Route 90 in Warren. The drill will involve the staff from Camden Hills, Camden Rockport Middle, and Camden Rockport Elementary schools as well as local emergency personnel. The drill is primarily designed to practice how the district would reunify parents and students should they need to evacuate one or all of the schools in both districts in a true emergency. This is often one of the most chaotic and neglected aspects of emergency planning.

No students will be participating in the drill. Staff will be designated to role-play "students" and "parents." The high school will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. that day, and the entrance gate will be locked from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

There will be sirens, fire, police and emergency vehicles involved in this drill both at the high school and at the Pitch, so community members may notice some commotion on Route 90 that afternoon.  School officials ask that no one panic or worry should they see or hear response to this drill that will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m.
