Camden — At noon on Saturday, Dec. 1, Camden was honored with a special guest as Santa Claus sailed into town. Santa did not use a sleigh for his travels, instead arriving via boat into Camden Harbor. Crowds cheered and children squealed with glee at the first sighting of St. Nick, and people of all ages hugged the end of the dock as, courtesy of Lyman Morse at Wayfarer, Santa came ashore at Camden’s Public Landing.

“Santa! Santa's here!” kids called, jumping up and down with excitement as Santa stepped off the dock with his elves. He made his way up the ramp, cheering and waving as he went. “Ho, Ho, Ho! Merry Christmas,” he called. Once at the public landing, families lined up to get a holiday photo with Santa Claus and his elf.

After Santa posed for pictures, he made his way to the Camden Public Library for more pictures and Santa’s Story Hour. “Merry Christmas,” he said, as he made his way through the library doors. “I’m so happy to be here!”

Once all of the children huddled around Santa, he pulled out a book and began to read. “Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a -” “Mouse!” all of the children called. Once the story was over, Santa went on to take individual pictures with the children as they told him what they want for Christmas.

Christmas by the Sea is a December tradition in the Camden area. In addition to the long-anticipated arrival of Santa Claus, the weekend includes shopping specials, concerts, a holiday-infused parade through downtown Camden, and a tree lighting ceremony.

Happy Holidays, Camden!
