Saint George Days road race, cornhole tourney scheduled

Tenants Harbor — The schedule for the annual Saint George Days celebration has been released and recreation activities are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22.

On Saturday, July 21, the Marshall Point Lighthouse 5-kilometer road race and children’s fun run will hit the scenic roads on the peninsula. The fun run will start at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K race/walk will follow at 8:30 a.m.

Registration forms are available in the town office or at the parks and recreation web page. Forms also may be mailed to the town office as well at: P.O. Box 131, Tenants Harbor, Maine 04860.

The fun run is free. The fee for the road race is $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event. T-shirts will be given to the first 50 runners or walkers who submit their registration form.

There will be age-group champion awards, as well as overall race winners for male and female runners.

Registration for the race closes at 8:10 a.m. on the day of the event. Proceeds from the race will go to the recreation boosters to support youth recreation opportunities.

At noon, there will be a dunk tank, which benefits Saint George Fire and Ambulance. The dunk tank will be located behind the town office, and "dunkees" will include firefighters and other area celebrities.

On Sunday, July 22, the cornhole tournament will be held at the big ballfield at 11 a.m. Registration for the event begins on Friday, July 20, during the street dance. The cost is $20 per team in advance and $30 the day of the tournament.

There is a maximum of 16 teams. The event will be single-elimination and awards will be given for the champions and runners-up. Participants must be ages 18 or older.
