Rockport — Two vehicles were involved in a rollover crash that snarled traffic in both directions along a busy section of Commercial Street near State of Maine Cheese in Rockport shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 3.

The crash left a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle upside down in the deep snow alongside the road as responders worked in frigid conditions to clear debris from the road and remove the vehicle from the snow.

John Wiegand, 54, Rockport was operating a 2010 Ford truck and had pulled onto the right shoulder of Commercial Street to turn around, according to the police report. Wiegand pulled onto the roadway to turn south and failed to see the the oncoming Volkswagen, operated by Allison Warren, 16, of Rockport, police said. Wiegand struck the VW in the area of the rear passenger tire causing her vehicle to leave the roadway and rollover, according to the crash report from Rockport Police Department.

Camden First Aid Association, Rockport Fire Department and Rockport Police responded to the incident.

No one involved in the crash was taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to Camden First Aid Service Chief Julia Libby.
