Rockport police seek owner of found items

Rockport — Tucked away in a rear corner of Rockport Police Station sits plastic tote containing a variety of items, including toys and holiday ornaments. The box was found in the roadway just before Christmas and Rockport Police Chief Mark Kelley said the police would like to locate the owner since he suspects the items may have been intended as Christmas gifts.

The box has been at the police station since Dec. 23 when it was reported as a traffic hazard after a driver saw it sitting in the middle of Route 17 near The Green Thumb around 11:30 a.m., according to Rockport Police Administrative Assistant Craig Cooley.

Since the police are unable to donate or discard unclaimed property, the tote and it's contents will soon join other items in a storage area in the basement of the public safety building.

Anyone who believes the items may belong to them should call Rockport Police at 236-2026.
