Rockport Dance Conservatory wins Gold(s)

North Berwick — Rockport Dance Conservatory returned March 16 with great results from its performances in the Dancers Inc Regional Dance Competition, held March 14 and March 15 at Noble High School. Nine RDC students competed over the weekend and were judged by level on technique, style and delivery of choreography and were competing against other studios from all over New England.

The competition kicked off Friday night with Senior Solos and Duo/Trios. Sydney Fields performed a musical theater solo to “Orange Colored Sky,” choreographed by Kari Cameron, and received a Gold and placed first overall in her Teen Solo division. Moira Pieri performed a contemporary solo to “Turn Me On,” also choreographed by Cameron. Pieri received a Gold and placed first overall in her Senior Solo division. Friday evening finished with a Musical Theater Duo, “Can’t Do It Alone,” performed by Fields and Sadie Mills and choreographed by Cameron and Sally Leighton. They received a High Gold and placed first overall in their Teen Duo/Trio division.

Saturday’s competition began with a Small Group Hip Hop routine to “Wind It Up,” performed by Fields, Mills, Annika Charland and Piper Pavelich, choreographed by Cameron; they received a High Gold. Jazz Small Group “Girls!” performed by Paige Chester, Kelsey Guinn, Carrie Long and Elise Mahar and choreographed by Cameron received a Gold and a Special Judges Award: Girl Power. And a Hip Hop Duo/Trio “Monsters,” performed by Guinn, Long and Ceci Tinch and co-choreographed by Pieri and Cameron, received a High Gold and placed second overall in its junior duo/trio division.

In addition to medals, RDC also won cash prizes for their overall group winners. This marks the first competition for students Tinch and Mahar, as well as the last Dancer’s Inc regional for graduating senior Pieri.
