That's where the summer rentals and the short term rentals come into play. The tourist need a cheaper way to vacation and the owner can get help with their tax bill. Val, ever wonder why many of the employees of the City, not to mention the head of Main Street, live out of town? Some claim they can't find suitable housing, others are willing to admit the taxes are to high and they don't like the quality of life.

Yep, and all the non profits that attract tourists do not help us, the tax payers AT ALL!   We have got to be the highest Non-Profit city in the State if not the East Coast.  Business conducted in the city is just Main Street.  That is it.  I wouldn't say the heart of Rockland is Main Street.  Most of the 50 shops on Main Street is non profits or restaurants.   Ever tell the tourists that think it's awesome to live in Rockland, our property tax rate?  Just really make me soooo angry!!!!!!
