Rockland — A 60-year-old Rockland man made his initial court appearance Sept. 30 after being arrested, accused of receiving and sharing child pornography.

Robert S. Gardner was arrested Sept. 29 on a charge of Class B dissemination of sexually explicit material. He was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland.

At his initial appearance in the Knox County court, Judge Paul Mathews agreed to the Maine Attorney General's Office request to set bail at $10,000 cash. He called the charges very serious and said he did not want Gardner to have access to the internet.

An affidavit filed in court by Rockland Police Detective Sgt. Alex Gaylor states that the investigation began in February, when the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about child pornography being uploaded at an internet address that was ultimately traced to Gardner at his Amesbury Street residence.

Rockland and state police conducted a search of the home July 31 after receiving a search warrant from the court. A cell phone and computer were seized and Gardner made some admissions, according to the affidavit.
