Rockland Kiwanis Club Meeting Minutes for March 24, 2014

President Katie Tarbox called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Broo Temple offered the invocation. Gerry Zwick was our guest.

Committee Reports
Next week will be our last meeting at Archer's. Then, for the first to FRIDAYS in April (the 11th and the 18th) we'll meet at The Samoset. Then, we'll start our regular Monday meetings on April 21st at The Samoset. We received a thank you letter from a scholarship recipient. The ELIMINATE! Basket was passed. Meals on Wheels: Cliff Blastow will deliver tomorrow. The Cupcake Challenge is on 5/18 from 2-4pm at Trackside, and tickets are $10. See John Batty if you would like to check some out to sell. The Aktion Club is having a chowder dinner on 4/16. There is a RIF distribution on 4/30 at 9am. Dan Saucier and Cliff Blastow will go to Head Start. The Special Olympics auction is 4/13 from 5:30-7:30pm at Trackside. The Grand Raffle committee will meet tomorrow at Kinney Rental at 5pm.

Ed Miller was happy for a trip to FL, and happy to be back. Bobbie Wentworth was happy high heel season was back. Gordon Page was sad Janet Page fell, happy for Jim Heavey, and happy to win $400 at the Governor's conference on tourism. Jim Heavey was happy for our speakers, happy for a trip to San Diego, happy for his wife, and happy to win the 50/50. Jane Dagley was happy for our speakers, happy for Bill Batty being the new vice president, happy for her mom's birthday, and happy for a trip to CT. Russ Cloutier was happy for a trip to visit his kids. Ray Comeau was sad he had to miss the Friday Samoset meetings. Lynn Archer was happy to host our club. Sumner Kinney was happy for Ed Miller. Gerry Zwick was happy for bowling at his grandson's birthday party. Keith Wass was sad his phone rang. Katie Tarbox was happy for Bill Batty as VP, happy husband Brian was improving from Bells palsy, and happy for our speakers. Bill Batty Jr. was sad for the controversy he started last week with what was supposed to be a joke.

Speakers: Sunny, Katie, Hannah, and Isaac are students at the Camden Middle School who are going to be going to Hirakawa Japan. Camden and Hirakawa have been sharing students for the last 17 years. In 1997 the first students from Japan came to Camden; in 1999, the first students from Camden went to Hirakawa. Between 40-50 students wanted to go to Japan, and 10 were chosen by lottery. The students have done all their own fund raising, and have almost reached their goal.
