Rockland Kiwanis Club Meeting Minutes for March 10,2014

President Katie Tarbox called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jackie Harjula offered the invocation. Guests included Gerry Zwick.

Committee Reports
The ELIMINATE basket was passed. There will be a vote of the membership for Bill Batty as VP on 03/17. Our last meeting at Archers will be on 03/31. Then, for the first two weeks in April we'll have our meetings on FRIDAY at The Samoset. Then, on 04/21, when The Samoset is fully open for the season, we'll start our regular Monday meetings. The Cupcake Challenge committee will meet on 03/13 at Trackside at 5:15pm. The Ways and Means committee reported that they are working on selling ads for a program for the planned Erin Donovan “concert.” See Doc Lombardi for available ad space. Membership: Gerry Zwick has turned in an application. Meals on Wheels: Cliff Blastow and Dan Saucier will deliver tomorrow. April 8th is open. John Batty passed a sign up for Kiwanis April “Skip-A-Meal” by passing up a meal and giving the cost equivalent to the KI Foundation. InterClub: Thursday April 3rd in Augusta at 1:30pm, and a regional Kiwanis meeting will be held at Camp Sunshine April 26th.

Recognition of Members
Secret Greeter: Gordon Page caught nobody but gave a dollar himself. Badges: Jane Dagley turned herself in. 50/50: The original ticket drawn was John Batty; no joker pulled. The second chance drawing went to Gordon Page who won a scratch ticket.

John Batty was happy for a positive doctor’s appointment with Brenda Batty. Jane Dagley had a missed meeting dollar with some excuse about having a flight canceled, and happy to see her old college roommate. Dan Saucier had a happy dollar for a contra dance fundraiser for his friends son. He also had a happy dollar for a first date with a woman that he took to an “unusual” clothing store in Freeport. Barbara Hanson was happy to hear about Brenda Batty. Jackie Harjula was happy for church fundraiser for the food pantry as well as for Brian Tarbox and his recovery. Katie Tarbox had a happy dollar for her new job as enrichment coordinator at the Methodist Conference Home. Gordon Page gave a last minute happy dollar for Dan and his exciting date.

Speaker: Susan Edmands, Director - Rockland Toy Library Center. Susan gave a presentation on the history and mission of the Toy Library of Rockland. Toy Library Center is a cooperative playgroup serving mid-coast Maine families. The Toy Library is for children six months to six years to engage in play with peers, and it offers an opportunity for parents to gather, observe their children play, and share parenting ideas.
