Rockland hires new harbor master

Rockland — Rockland's new harbor master is scheduled to take the helm of the harbor department next month.

Ryan Murry of Davie, Florida, has been hired as the new harbor master, succeeding Matt Ripley who resigned to devote more time to his landscaping and excavation business — High and Tight Lawn Care. He has operated the business on his days off as harbor master. Ripley had served as Rockland's harbor master since March 2016.

Murry served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 2005 through 2013 and was a boatswains mate second class, and served in Eastport.

He served as a police patrolman for the Pleasant Point Police Department in Maine from 2013 through 2014 and then a patrol deputy for the Washington County Sheriff's Office from 2014 through 2018.

He relocated to Florida and served as a safety consultant for Servitec Group in Miramar, Fla.

Since September 2019, Murry has been the harbor master for Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Murry is scheduled to begin work May 24.

Rockland's harbor as nearly 600 moorings. During the past five years, issues such as the proposed expansion of Yachting Solutions Marina and cruise ships have received considerable attention.
