Rock, folk for Rock City weekend

Oct 04, 2017
Vicky Andres and Life Itself

Rockland — Rock City Café, 316 Main St., will present Vicky Andres and Life Itself Friday, Oct. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. Andres’ passionate vocals can move from a vulnerable whisper to a courageous roar, and her intricate guitar work on both acoustic and electric is driving and rhythmic funk. Max McFarland’s percussive playing style on his custom-made 11-string bass has a fresh approach in his two-handed technique that is ahead of its time. Jason Dean on drums laces this power trio together, providing backbone strength with a rhythmic flare. Vicky Andres and Life Itself  promises an intense performance that is edgy, energetic and positive, fitting somewhere among alternative, rock and funk.

Saturday night, Oct. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m., Rock City presents Will Brown and David Foley in a concert of traditional and contemporary Celtic, Breton and transatlantic tunes and songs. Foley is a fine finger-style multi-instrumentalist who plays a variety of guitars, mandolins and bouzouki family instruments. Brown also plays finger style of the same ilk, and they have come up with some instrumental duets and new song arrangements in the folk and Americana tradition.

Food is available until closing. For more information on these and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123 or find it on Facebook.
