Rockport — The Kennebec Riverhawks of Waterville/Winslow set the tone and tenor early in the first period to grab the momentum and, eventually, a 4-0 victory over host Camden Hills in high school ice hockey on Wednesday night, Jan. 10 at the Midcoast Recreation Center.

The fast and multi-talented Riverhawks mostly controlled play and skated to the win over the Windjammers in a midweek game.

"Not finishing on our scoring chances around their net and some lapses in defensive awareness hurt us tonight," said Windjammer coach Karl Enroth.

Waterville/Winslow carried the play during the opening period to lead 2-0. The Windjammers responded with a strong second period and outshot the Riverhawks 12-2, but had nothing to show for it, as the hosts were unable to finish their opportunities as the score remained 2-0.

The visitors netted two early third-period goals and played a tight-checking period to win 4-0.

The visitors held a 29-22 edge in shots, including 14-6 in the first period and 13-4 in the second.

Matt Czuchra made 25 saves in net for the Windjammers and Bryce Gunzinger 22 for the Riverhawks.

Waterville/Winslow had three minor penalties for six minutes and the Windjammers one for two minutes. The opponents came up empty on the power play, with the hosts 0-of-3 and visitors 0-of-1.

The individual scoring included:

First period — WW, 1-0, at 11:19, Cooper Hart (Logan Denis assisting). Hart skated into a high rebound off a Denis shot and fired a one-timer from the high slot. WW, 2-0, at 5:33, Tommy Tibbbets (Nick West assisting). On the penalty-kill, Tibbets scored on a breakaway.

Third period — WW, 3-0, at 11:56, Denis (Brock Joicoeur assisting). Denis scored on a shot off the right post. WW, 4-0, at 10:55, Chase Wheeler (Copper Hart assisting). Wheeler scored on a shot from the mid-slot.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Camden Hills (3-5, 8.7654 points) is fifth, while Old Town/Orono (8-0, 20.4938 points) is first in the nine-team region. The top six team squads qualify for the playoffs.
