Rescue crews free driver in St. George crash

St. George — A man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries following a Wednesday morning crash when his car went off Route 131 and into some trees.

The crash occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. July 22, south of the intersection with Long Cove Road.

The car was heading south on Route 131 when it veered into the oncoming lane and went off the road.

The crash is still under investigation, but police believe the driver experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash, according to Knox County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Patrick Polky.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Knox County Regional Communications Center, St. George Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

Emergency personnel from St. George helped free the driver.

The car had to be towed from the scene.
