Realizing the American Dream in the Rockport Police Department

Photo by: Daniel Dunkle Jeta Bixhaku is a new police officer with the Rockport department.

Rockport — Jeta Bixhaku was willing to cross an ocean to seek opportunities in America with her family and realize her goal of becoming a police officer.

The pinning ceremony in which she officially earned her badge with the Rockport Police Department was held at the Select Board meeting Sept. 8.

Bixhaku, 26, of Rockland, joined the department in July.

She came to America in 2015 along with her mother and her brother, Igli, 19, who attends Maine Maritime Academy.

She previously worked for the Rockland Police Department in 2019.

The officer has applied to become a U.S. citizen and is a permanent resident. She said the process of coming to this country from Albania took 15 years of paperwork and effort.

However, she also says it was worth it.

“I love being in America,” she said. “The opportunities provided to everyone are amazing.”

Unlike Albania, she said it is much easier here to find something that you love and go after it.

Among her talents and skills brought to the job, she can speak four languages – English, Albanian, French and Italian. She said German is next on her list to tackle.

She received her badge from Police Chief Randy Gagne, and she got a warm welcome from the Select Board.

A success like this at such an early age and with all the effort put forth, should be on our National News.

Seemingly she is a truly gifted and goal oriented person. I have a hunch she will do a fine job at Rockport PD. A warm welcome by the Chief and Select Board was indeed justified.
