Warren — Join Sean Fleming and his six-piece Dam' Rag Scotta Orchestra will present their Real Ragtime Concert, a collection of classic, early 20th-century rag tunes, Sunday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Woolen Mill Park, 300 Main St. in the village.

Performed in the original styles and tempos rarely heard today, the concert will feature compositions by Confrey, Hayden, Joplin, Lamb, Morton, Scott and Shepherd. Included will be several works from the "Red Back Book," a collection of ragtime orchestral arrangements published in the early 1900s.

Upbeat favorites such as Joplin's "The Entertainer," "Maple Leaf Rag" and "The Easy Winners" will be mixed with slower pieces such as Lamb's "Ragtime Nightingale" and Joplin's "Solace." The piano solo "Jelly Roll Blues," an early jazz piece, will be played, as well as the novelty piano piece "Dizzy Fingers," which is played as fast as its title would indicate. This concert is sure to be a favorite for people of all ages.

The Dam' Rag Scotta Orchestra comprises the talents of Chuck McGregor, bass; Mitch Kihn, clarinet; Linda Brunner, flute and piccolo; Carol Preston and Carolyn MacDonald, violins; and Fleming, piano.

Everyone is invited to help usher in the start of the fall season in the beautiful Warren Woolen Mill Park, nestled in the heart of Warren. The concert is free; bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. For more information, call 273-2622. There is a Porta-Potty on site.
