Thomaston — Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings weekly at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. January’s theme is Laughter: the best medicine.

On Jan. 10, the series will screen “Lars & the Real Girl,” an Oscar-nominated 2007 film that is rated PG-13 and runs 106 minutes. When a delusional loner buys a life-sized sex doll over the Internet, promptly falls in love with her and starts telling people that she is his girlfriend, his brother and sister-in-law decide it is time to intervene. This endearing, intelligent and tender comedy stars Ryan Gosling as Lars.

The series will continue with “The Pink Panther” (1964, USA), Jan. 17; “The Lady Eve” (1941, USA), Jan. 24; and “Hopscotch” (1981, USA), Jan. 31. Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served.

The Thomaston Academy building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
