Owls Head — Four lucky students from each grade, kindergarten through fifth, at Gilford Butler and Owls Head Central Schools were awarded new bicycles at a special assembly May 17.

The "Bikes for Books" program, sponsored by the Masons of Aurora Lodge No. 50, is an incentive for children to read. For every book a child reads, he or she gets a ticket to fill out and enter in a drawing for a new bicycle.

The Masons drew tickets for two boys and  two girls from each class to win new bikes, helmets and T-shirts. The more books the children read, the more chances they had to win.

Overseeing the program was lodge Secretary Floyd Montgomery, who announced the winners as follows:

Kindergarten – Everett Tolman, Josie Raye, Ka-Maree Kassa and Miles Merriam

First grade – Madeline Harrington, Dylan Stalcup, Cameron Johnson and Ruby Sewall

Second grade – Aiden Genthner, Evelynne Galkowski, Payton Leva and Lucian Knowlton

Third grade – Natalie Tolman, Henry Ackor, Dannaleigh Walsh and Brody Benner

Fourth grade – Helen Harrington, Stephan Talbot, Colby Bennett and Emma Morrison

Fifth grade – Jessica Franklin, Mariah Watkinson, Gavin Ripley and Maddox Robishaw
