Brunswick — Abbie Read’s solo exhibit “Reading and Writing” is up through September at the Frank Brockman Gallery, 68 Maine St. There will be an opening reception Saturday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m.

In addition to a number of works from recent years, the exhibit features her ongoing project “Library,” a 40-foot long, wall-mounted mixed media sculpture comprising parts of discarded books, altered books, handmade artist books and found objects. Other works in the exhibit are collages and other constructions using discarded books.

Read has exhibited her work throughout Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts and Vermont, as well as abroad in Doha, Qatar, as part of the Art In Embassies Program. Her work is in private collections throughout the country. She lives and works in Appleton.
