Bangor — For the team's first official game in Class A, the Camden Hills field hockey squad proved its mettle as the Windjammers hit the road to face Bangor on Thursday, Aug. 31.

The Windjammers and Rams went scoreless for the 60 minutes of regulation and, ultimately, needed an overtime period to find a winner in the season-opening high school sticks competition.

In the end, it was Bangor’s Gabby Gonzales who scored the game-winner in the 7-on-7, eight-minute overtime with 6:24 remaining, which propelled the Rams to a 1-0 victory.

Camden Hills held a commanding 18-3 advantage in shots and 6-4 edge in penalty corners.

"Their goalie was fast and aggressive," said Camden Hills coach Lindsey Clement. "Their offense was faster than our defense, that's what led to their breakaway in overtime. We dominated the entire game, but our offense wasn't hungry enough to get around the goalie."

Jenna Stearns made two saves in goal for the Windjammers and Kahia Maheux had 16 stops for the Rams.
