Rockport — A glorious spring day deserved nothing less than a return to high school baseball and Oceanside and Camden Hills were more than happy to oblige with two competitive, season-opening games on Monday, April 19.

The longtime Midcoast athletic rivals played a doubleheader and, after 14 innings of cleat-to-cleat action, could only decide they would settle for a split.

Camden Hills, the host in the first game, trailed 3-0 and 4-1 before the Windjammers rallied for a 9-4 victory.

In the close second game, the Mariners, the home team on the Windjammer field, stared at an 0-2 start to the campaign when they trailed 7-2 before Oceanside sent 11 batters to the plate to scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the 8-7 victory.
