Waldoboro — Tickets are on sale for a Raising the Roof Barn Party on Aug. 1 in the beautiful new timber frame barn of Tops'l Farm, 364 Bremen Road. The festive summer evening of food, drink and music will benefit the restoration of the historic Waldo Theatre in downtown Waldoboro.

John Stirratt of Wilco and The Autumn Defense will perform with members of the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra. Also featured throughout the evening will be local musicians Oshima Brothers and The Ale House String Band. Food, provided by Harvest Moon Catering, will feature wood-fired, local, farm-to-plate cuisine. There will be oysters for sale from Pemaquid Oyster Company, as well as a cash bar featuring local beer from Waldoboro's own Odd Alewives Farm Brewery.

Proceeds from this event go to the renovation and restoration of the Waldo Theatre. This beautiful building and once-vibrant hub of the community has been shuttered since 2014; fallen into disrepair; and, in 2017, was placed on Maine’s List of Most Endangered Historic Places. Recognizing the value of this iconic building and what an asset it is for the region, local residents came together in 2016 to create a new board and chart a new way forward, planning a series of fundraising events — starting with the Raising the Roof Barn Party.

Board members are excited by the growing community support and potential to return the Waldo Theatre to its rightful place as a thriving arts center in the region. Space is limited for this one-night-only evening of local food and drink and exciting musical performances. Tickets, $75, are available online at waldotheatre.org.

The historic Waldo Theatre, located at 319 Main St./Route 220, is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Regular monthly meetings occur on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of 251 Jefferson St., in the village. All meetings are open to the public. Those who plan on joining are asked to contact Keri Spiliopoulos-Lupien, Waldo Theatre Board Vice-President, at keri@waldotheatre.org.
