Raffle to support Maine Envirothon

Mar 04, 2014

There are five weeks left to enter the Maine Envirothon raffle for a chance to win one of three cash prizes — $250, $500, or $1,000.

All proceeds from this raffle support the Maine Envirothon, Maine Association of Conservation Districts’ flagship educational program benefiting high school students throughout Maine. Tickets are $10 each and only 500 tickets will be sold.

Envirothon is a state- and nation-wide environmental competition that tests high school students’ knowledge of natural resources and current environmental issues. Three to five student teams answer questions and solve hands-on problems in five subject areas: wildlife, water/aquatics, forestry, soils, and a current natural resource issue. This year’s current issue is Sustainable, Local Agriculture/Locally Grown. A minimum of two teams from each regional competition advances to the state finals; the state winner goes on to compete nationally.

Schools interested in forming a team may contact Knox-Lincoln Education Coordinator Rebecca Jacobs at rebecca@knox-lincoln.org or 596-2040 or State Envirothon Coordinator Josh Platt at josh@kcswcd.org or 622-7847 ext. 3.

To purchase tickets, contact Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District at 596-2040 or info@knox-lincoln.org; purchase online at maineenvirothon.org; or send a check for $10 (payable to MACD) to Knox-Lincoln SWCD, 893 West St, Rockport, ME 04856. Winners need not be present at the drawing, which will be held Wednesday, April 9.
