Program on suicide prevention Sept. 25 is open to all

Sep 11, 2019

Rockland — The public is invited to a free suicide prevention presentation Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Adas Yoshuron Synagogue, 50 Willow St.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, an annual campaign in the United States to inform and engage health professionals and the general public about suicide prevention and the warning sides of suicide. The program is co-sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Midcoast Interfaith Alliance.

A Maine citizen dies by suicide every 37 hours. Preventing suicide is up to all of us; not merely mental health clinicians and emergency services. Every friend, family member and neighbor can play a role in preventing suicide. Prevention relies on people knowing about suicide: how to talk about it and recognize risk, and what help looks like for someone in need.

This suicide prevention presentation is open to anyone who has in interest in reducing suicide and for those who work with individuals who are at risk of suicide.
