Priscilla M. Barnes

Nov 26, 2018

Thomaston — Priscilla May Barnes died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Sussman Hospice House in Rockport. Born in Warren, Nov. 20, 1937, she was the only child of Waldo and Gladys Ring. She attended Thomaston schools, graduating from Thomaston High School in 1956 as valedictorian. She married Paul Barnes in 1957, and they raised their family in Warren, Belfast and Thomaston. They were married for 61 years.

In 1979 she earned her bachelor's degree from University of Maine at Augusta and became a teacher, teaching first and second grades in Warren schools. She was a member of many organizations, the school board for MSAD 50, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, PEO and the Ladies Guild at Rockland Congregational Church.

She had an adventurous side. She loved to camp with her family and friends, camping all over the northeastern U.S, hiking mountains and riding bicycles. She fearlessly traversed the woods near her home on the back of a dirt bike with her son Brian, and she drove an ATV in rough northern Maine terrain with her husband, Paul. She was an adventurous cross-country skier who loved to hit the trails with her friends and her kids.

Priscilla had a passion for genealogy, proudly tracing her family tree to the Mayflower expedition and beyond, traveling to the British Isles to explore her ancestry. She was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed gardening. She loved to travel over the years, taking numerous trips on cruise ships to places from Alaska to the Caribbean. Prince Edward Island was one of her favorite yearly trips with her husband, Paul.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Barnes, of Thomaston; her daughter Paula Barnes Mark and her husband, Kevin, of Midvale, Utah; her son Perry Barnes and his wife, Lauren, of Thomaston; her daughter Karen Barnes Grierson and her husband, George, of Thomaston; her son Brian Barnes and his wife, Rita, of Thomaston; her grandchildren, Gregory Tripp and his wife, Tiffany, Lauren Tripp Vega and her husband, Jesus, Allison Tripp Johnson and her husband, Tyler, Emily Mark, David Mark and his wife, Rachel, Stephanie Neal and her husband, George, Brad Grierson and his wife, Joanna, Ryan Grierson and his wife, Meagan, Alex Grierson and his wife, Schaeffer, Christopher Barnes, Daniel Barnes; and 23 great-grandchildren.
