Police say Warren man struck victim with dumbbell

By Stephen Betts | Oct 07, 2020

Warren — A Warren man was arrested Oct. 3, accused of striking another man with a dumbbell.

Peter S. Thompson, 42, was charged with Class B aggravated assault, refusing to submit to arrest and four counts of violating a condition of release.

According to an affidavit filed in the Knox County court by the Knox County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a disturbance on the Eastern Road. When officers arrived, the male victim reported that Thompson came over to his house while drunk, and an argument ensued, where Thompson picked up a dumbbell and punched the victim with it.

Thompson was found in a garage with a woman he was prohibited having contact with, according to the affidavit. When officers tried to arrest him, he fled, and the woman slapped an officer in the face with an open hand. She was arrested for assault, disorderly conduct and obstruction.

Thompson attempted to barricade himself in a room, but deputies were able to get inside before he closed the door. He was arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland.

Thompson was free on bail at the time of the Oct. 3 incident, while awaiting trial on a domestic violence assault charge with the woman he was with being the victim from a 2019 case. He was also free on bail for violating a condition of release because the woman he is accused of assaulting in 2019 was also the victim in an earlier assault case, which he was convicted.
