Playin’ Possum

Rockport — The Friends of Rockville Chapel will kick off a summer of events with a performance by Playin’ Possum Friday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at the classic historic meetinghouse, 87 Old Rockland St.

This family band has been playing light rock, country, folk and a little bluegrass all around the Midcoast for nearly 10 years. David Hynd plays acoustic rhythm guitar, Gigi is on upright bass, Peter is on lead guitar (both acoustic and electric) and James is on drums.

David, Gigi and Peter share singing lead and harmonizing. They all love artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, Alison Kraus, Bob Dylan, the Eagles and Dan Fogelberg; and will play favorites from fiddle tunes such as "Old Joe Clark" to Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight.”

The Rockville Community Chapel, located off Route 17 behind the Green Thumb, has recently been lovingly revived with new windows, new steeple, painting and carpeting and new heating. The Friends of Rockville Chapel are continuing the restoration by raising funds for exterior maintenance this summer with a series of events including performances by The Belfast Bay Fiddlers on July 13; and a Blueberry Social on Aug. 11. More events are in the works.

A suggested donation of $5 will be received at the door. For more information, email or; or visit Coming early for good seats is recommended.
