Area high school soccer teams began their seasons on Friday, Sept. 6 as squads from Oceanside, Camden Hills and Medomak Valley, ultimately, offered a mixed bag of results for Midcoast fans.

The Windjammer boys posted a 4-3 win over Bangor and Medomak Valley boys a 3-1 victory over Erskine Academy of South China, while the Panther girls — along with Oceanside teams — came up short in their efforts on the field.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Camden Hills 4, Bangor 3

At Rockport Sept. 6, the Windjammers battled back from two deficits to knock off the Rams at home. The opponents were tied 2-2 at halftime.

Levi Guay and Quinn Brown creased the net twice for Camden Hills, while Hugh Costigan, Ben Owre and Jackson Fitch logged assists. Damien Sheffer and Andrew Munroe had scores for Bangor.

Matt Kremin made two saves on five shots in goal for the Windjammers, who held a 12-6 edge in shots on the afternoon.

The game was tied 2-2 deep into the second half when Owre centered a ball that Brown popped into the net for the winning score.

"I was really proud of the team today,” said Camden Hills coach Ryan Hurley. “We showed a lot of character coming back twice and never letting up until the final whistle. We scored beautiful goals and took some positive steps forward. We'll savor the win against one of the best programs in Class A and will start preparing for a clash with Brewer [on Sept. 10].”

Medomak Valley 3, Erskine Academy 1

At Waldoboro Sept. 6, the Panthers started the fall campaign on the right foot as they prowled past the Eagles. Medomak Valley held that same 3-1 edge after 40 minutes of play.

Will Smith creased the net twice in the win for Medomak Valley, while Zack Cheesman added one goal and Brandon Starr one assist. Sam York scored the lone goal for Erskine Academy.

Jake Bickmore made four saves in goal for the Panthers and Nick Howard seven stops for the Eagles. Medomak Valley held a 10-5 edge in shots.

Leavitt 7, Oceanside 0

At Turner Sept. 6, the Hornets scored early and often en route to a blanking of the Mariners. Leavitt led 4-0 at halftime.

Leavitt led 18-10 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks. Isaiah Meklin made six saves for the Mariners, while Blaine Clark made six saves for the Hornets.

Goal scorers for the hosts were unavailable.

Girls soccer

Erskine Academy 1, Medomak Valley 0

At South China Sept. 6, the Eagles scored off a set piece, which proved enough to pick up the win over the Panthers.

The Eagles held a 15-7 edge in shots and 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Medomak Valley coach Bri Morrill said Gabby Baughman played “outstanding individual defense,” while keeper Kayla Donlin made “great saves” in the losing effort.

Leavitt 4, Oceanside 0

At Thomaston Sept. 6, the Hornets stung the Mariners in the opening game of the season and prevailed via shutout. Leavitt held a 3-0 lead at halftime.
