Alan Arkin heads a terrific ensemble cast in “Thirteen Conversations About One Thing.”

Camden — Besides meeting on the first Tuesday of each month as a reading and discussion group, the Camden Philosophical Society sponsors occasional evening films and lectures.

The fall screening will take place Thursday, Sept. 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Picker Room of Camden Public Library. All are welcome.

The movie selection is “Thirteen Conversations About One Thing” (2001, USA), an R-rated movie that runs 104 minutes and stars Alan Arkin, John Turturro, Matthew McConaughey and Amy Irving.

The film explores questions such as how do we define happiness and what is required by people to attain their ideas of happiness; what role does luck play; how do our everyday chance interactions with people influence our views of a good life, success and satisfaction; and what is a good life? A discussion on these themes will follow the free screening.
