Pen Bay Lacrosse 7th/8th girls sweep at Tegenhondi

Waterville — The Pen Bay Lacrosse girls seventh- and eighth-grade team continued to show its dominance on the field as the squad secured three victories at the Tegenhondi Tournament on Sunday, May 19 at Colby College.

Pen Bay started with a down-to-the-wire 5-4 victory over Cony of Augusta, which saw the local squad score with three seconds remaining, then bested Bangor 10-3 and finished with a 7-5 win over Windham, to cap the day at 3-0.

Pen Bay, coached by Jen Johnson and Beth Ward, includes Roo Boetsch, Sophia Clayton, Lucy Cohen, Charlotte Delehey, Britta Denny, Georgia Heintzman, Brook Hoppe, Jaden Johnson, Marley LeBel, Gwenyth Miller, Maddie Pascal, Mya Simmons, Bella Ward and Lea Zwecker.

The following is a recap of the three matches:

Pen Bay 5, Cony 4

Pen Bay squeaked out a victory over Cony with three seconds left for its first win of the day.

Bella Ward (2 goals) led the Pen Bay offense, while Jaden Johnson (goal), Marley LeBel (goal) and Maddie Pascal (goal) found the back of the net.

Roo Boetsch made two saves in net.

Pen Bay 10, Bangor 3

Pen Bay moved to 2-0 in the tourney with a team effort in a win over Bangor.

Charlotte Delehey (2 goals) paced Pen Bay, while Jaden Johnson (goal, 2 assists), Marley LeBel (goal, 2 assists), Lucy Cohen (goal), Bella Ward (goal), Maddie Pascal (goal), Gwen Miller (goal), Mya Simmons (goal) and Britta Denny (goal) had strong offensive showings.

Roo Boetsch made three saves in goal.

Pen Bay 7, Windham 5

Pen Bay capped the day with a hard-fought victory over Windham.

Jaden Johnson (2 goals) and Bella Ward (2 goals) paced the offensive, while Lucy Cohen (goal), Britta Denny (goal) and Marley LeBel (goal) also found the back of the net.

Roo Boetsch made eight saves in goal.
