PAWS: Extra time? Volunteer for our Pat-a-Pet

Nov 20, 2012

Please join us at High Mountain Hall in Camden on Thursday, Nov. 29, for the PAWS Auction for the Animals. A silent auction begins at 6 p.m. and the live auction at 7:30 p.m. There will be great items to bid on, a cash bar courtesy of High Mountain Hall, hors d’oeuvres by French & Brawn and sweets from Laugh loud Smile big. For a sneak peek at some of the items, go to We will have our Angel Tree at the event, and you’ll be able to buy platters of homemade Christmas cookies. This is one event you won’t want to miss!

If animals were invited to our PAWS auction, Bruno, Avery and Lola would be there. Bruno is a greyhound mix, around a year and a half, and the sweetest guy in the world. And plenty smart: When you ask him to sit, he lifts his paw up and sits pretty! He adores everyone, including kids and other dogs. He hasn’t been around cats, so we’re not sure if they’re on the list.

Avery is a gorgeous 4-year-old Lab/hound mix who misses being with a family. She loves to give hugs and kisses and likes to take walks and ride in the car. She’ll melt your heart, and we hope she finds her “fur-ever” home very soon.

Lola is looking for a home where she can just hang out and go for walks. This 8-year-old Lhasa Apso would make a great companion for someone who is retired. She won’t be much of traveling companion, though, as she does get carsick.

Do you have some spare time during the week? Would you be willing to spend an hour or so with some of the shelter animals? If so, then you should think about our Pat-a-Pet program. We like to take some of the shelter animals to local assisted-living facilities and visit with the residents. Not only does this help socialize the animals, but it also gives the residents a chance to reconnect with a furry friend. If you’re interested, please call Laura at the shelter.

We are in DESPERATE need of canned wet food for dogs and cats, non-clumping cat litter and paper towels. You can leave these items in our foyer or stop by and drop them off anytime. We truly appreciate all of the donations we receive.

Please stop in and see us and all our beautiful beasties at 146 Camden St. in Rockport. We’re open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, our phone number is 236-8702 is never closed! And thank you, as always, for your caring and support.
