Panthers, Windjammers finish regular-season court affairs

Medomak Valley boys only winners, as area teams play Messalonskee, Mount Blue

Mother Nature did her part to extend the regular season — after a pair of snowy, icy days — but the high school basketball campaign finally drew to a close on Saturday, Feb. 8 as a few squads look forward to the postseason.

On Saturday, the Medomak Valley boys posted a pivotal win over Messalonskee of Oakland that helped them claim the third seed in Class A North, while Camden Hills saw its seasons conclude with losses against Mount Blue of Farmington.

The Panther girls also fell to visiting Messalonskee on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Boys

Medomak Valley 54, Messalonskee 50

At Oakland Feb. 8, the Panthers clinched the third spot in Class A North with a hard-fought win over the Eagles. Messalonskee led 16-10 after the first quarter and 27-20 at halftime, while the teams were tied 37-37 after three quarters.

Patrick McKenney scored 24 points to lead Medomak Valley, while Trevor Brown added 18; Gabe Allaire, 10; and Parker Morrison, two.

Brown also grabbed 10 rebounds, while Aiden Starr added six rebounds and four steals, McKenney six rebounds and Allaire four assists.

Matthew Parent scored 13 points for Messalonskee, while Tucker Charles added nine; Jacob Perry, eight; Noah Wood, seven; Tysen Paz, five; and Isaac Violette and Will Cole, four.

The Panthers were 8-of-16 (50 percent) from the foul line, while the Eagles were 4-of-7 57 percent).

Mount Blue 81, Camden Hills 66

At Rockport Feb. 8, the Cougars prowled to the victory in the final regular-season game for both squads. Mount Blue led 21-12, 39-30 and 58-41 at the quarter breaks.

Jeremy Fraser dumped in a game-high 30 points for the hosts, while Josh Pearse and Ryan Clifford added six; Obie Miller, Aiden Schecter and Skye Abaldo, five; Liam O’Neal and Ivan Young, three; James Byrd, two; and Casey Messer, one.

Bradley Shamba scored 17 points for the visitors, while Zack Poisson and Hunter Meeks added 14; Jacob Farnham, 13; Hunter Donald, 12; Cam Phillips, eight; Elijah Craig, two; and Dawson Black, one.

The Windjammers were 14-of-19 (74 percent) from the foul line, while the Cougars were 15-of-29 (52 percent).

Girls

Mount Blue 45, Camden Hills 35

At Farmington Feb. 8, the Cougars prowled past the visiting Windjammers. Mount Blue led 19-8, 27-18 and 40-22 at the quarter breaks.

Kaylyn Krul led Camden Hills with eight points, while Ella Graffam and Grace O’Connell added six; Audrey Bowman, five; and Ella Powers, Lily Clement, Bailey Curtis, Mila Monometti and Tess Jalbuena-Cook, two.

Eva Stevens scored 17 points for Mount Blue, while Lexi Mittlestadt added 11; Ashley Parlin, five; Kiely Reynolds, four; Katelyn Dagger and Kaitlin Blodgett, three; and Hannah Wilbur, two.

The Windjammers were 9-of-20 (45 percent) from the foul line, while the Cougars were 14-of-22 (63 percent).

Messalonskee 63, Medomak Valley 39

At Waldoboro Feb. 5, the Eagles soared past the host Panthers. Messalonskee led 14-10, 29-22 and 43-30 at the quarter breaks.

Sadie Cohen scored 10 points for the Panthers, while Autumn Ripley, Julia Kunesh and Kayla Donlin added six; Alyssa Creamer, five; Abby Lash, four; and Addison McCormick, two.

Gabrielle Wener led the Eagles with 18 points, while Jordan Devine added 13; Grace Wener, nine; Brooke Martin, eight; Mackenzie Mayo, seven; Danielle Hall, four; and Sarah Lowell and Shauna Clark, two.

Medomak Valley was 7-of-11 (63 percent) from the foul line, while Messalonskee was 10-of-16 (62 percent).
