Panthers, Mariners, Windjammers stay in swing of things on course

Medomak Valley 5-2, Oceanside 4-2, Camden Hills winless thus far

With the rust shaken off to start the season, the Medomak Valley, Oceanside and Camden Hills golf teams are in the thick of play, as the high school squads have experienced varying degrees of success.

In recent links action, the Panthers (5-2) and Mariners (4-2) added victories to their win column, while the Windjammers (0-6) remain in search of their first victory of the season.

Medomak Valley faced Lincoln Academy of Newcastle and Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield and came away with a 7-2 win over the Eagles and a 9-0 win over the Huskies on Monday, Sept. 9.

The Windjammers fell to Lewiston 6-3 on Monday, Sept. 9, and also lost in a tri-match 8-1 against Mount Ararat of Topsham and 7.5-1.5 to Brunswick on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Oceanside was on the road in a tri-match on Monday, Sept. 9, and split with Gardiner and Nokomis, as the Mariners lost to the Tigers 5.5-3.5, but beat the Warriors 8-1. Oceanside also swung to an 8-1 victory over Erskine Academy of South China on Friday, Sept. 6.

Medomak Valley 9, MCI 0

At Rockland Golf Club Sept. 9, the Panthers blanked the Huskies. Medomak Valley finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 194 to 230 for MCI.

The individual Medomak Valley results, with Panther golfers listed first, were: Sean Sebrey (49) beat Owen Williams (57), 4+2; Carson Murphy (39) beat Umi Miyano (52), 5+3; Garret Hutchins (54) beat Leah Dechaine (62), 2+1; Merritt Gould (52) beat Lauren Lancaster (59), 3+2; Noah Crosby (56) beat Marta Weinstein (withdrew), 4+3; and Tyler Metcalf (57) beat Trevor Basford (no score), 5+4.

Murphy shot 39 to earn medalist honors.

Medomak Valley 7, Lincoln Academy 2

At Rockland Golf Club Sept. 9, the Panthers clawed through the Eagles. Medomak Valley finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 194 to 215 for Lincoln Academy.

The individual Medomak Valley results, with Panther golfers listed first, were: Sean Sebrey (49) halved his match with Will Farrell (51); Carson Murphy (39) beat Sebastian Chesebro (55), 4+3; Garret Hutchins (54) beat Aiden McClullen (no score), 2-up; Merritt Gould (52) lost to Christopher Prokopius (52), 3+2; Noah Crosby (56) halved his match with Ashton Foster (57); and Tyler Metcalf (57) beat Aidan Gallagher (62), 5+3.

Murphy earned medalist honors with 39.

Gardiner 5.5, Oceanside 3.5

At Augusta Country Club Sept. 9, the Tigers clawed through the Mariners. Gardiner finished with a four-gofer stroke total of 207 to 208 for Oceanside.

The individual Oceanside results, with Mariner golfers listed first, were: Austin Chilles (55) lost to Andrew Kelley (47), 4+2; Darik Johnson (51) beat Owen Doyle (55), 1-up; Carter Fogarty (48) beat Jared Shaw (53), 3+2; Mason Curtis (54) lost to Logan Manter (52), 3+2; Nate Fogarty (61) tied Nadia Kempton (63); and Colin Landry (64) beat Zach Bowman (63), 1-up.

Kelley earned medalist honors with 47.

Oceanside 8, Nokomis 1

At Augusta Country Club Sept. 9, the Mariners beat the Warriors. Oceanside finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 208 to 233 for Nokomis.

The individual Oceanside results, with Mariner golfers listed first, were: Austin Chilles (55) lost to Lindsay Cote (49), 2+1; Darik Johnson (51) beat Jacob Hawthrone (68), 5+3; Carter Fogarty (48) beat Shane Shorette (57), 4+3; Mason Curtis (54) beat Cody Chretien (62), 3+2; Nate Fogarty (61) beat Amber Scholten (68), 2+1; and Colin Landry (64) beat Tucker Lord (68), 3+2.

Carter Fogarty earned medalist honors with 48.

Lewiston 6, Camden Hills 3

At the Samoset Resort in Rockport Sept. 9, the Windjammers fell to the Blue Devils. Lewiston finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 17 to 183 for Camden Hills.

The individual Camden Hills results, with Windjammer golfers listed first, were: Parker Hilchey (39) beat Parker Thibault (41); Jonathan Mahoney (46) lost to Bryce Dufour (44); Bryler Fisher (49) lost to Ryan Pomerleau (43); Shiyan Kesser (54) lost to Joey Gendron (43); Aidan O'Connell (52) lost to Mason Beaudoin (48); Caden Sawyer (49) beat Logan Tripp (54); Jason Greenleaf lost to Sam Courtemanche (45); and Drew Minery (45) won by forfeit.

Hilchey shot 39 to earn medalist honors.

Mount Ararat 8, Camden Hills 1

At Brunswick Golf Club Sept. 7, the Eagles soared through the Windjammers. Mount Ararat finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 175 to 214 for Camden Hills.

The individual Camden Hills results, with Windjammer golfers listed first, were: Parker Hilchey (46) lost to Caleb Manuel (37); Shiyan Kesser (59) lost to Ty Henke (40); Bryler Fisher (52) lost to Eli Schoenberg (49); Aidan O'Connell (58) lost to Alex Witwicki (49); Jason Greenleaf (60) lost to Colby Merryman (51); and Caden Sawyer (61) beat Sam Hughes (64).

Manuel shot 37 to earn medalist honors.

Brunswick 7.5, Camden Hills 1.5

At Brunswick Golf Club Sept. 7, the Dragons swung to a home victory over the Windjammers. Brunswick finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 199 to 214 for Camden Hills.

The individual Camden Hills results, with Windjammer golfers listed first, were: Parker Hilchey (46) lost to Ben Garrison (42); Shiyan Kesser (59) lost to Sean Lyne (50); Bryler Fisher (52) beat Spencer Marquis (59); Aidan O'Connell (58) lost to Hunter Lord (55); Jason Greenleaf (60) lost to Ben Johns (59); and Caden Sawyer lost to Riley Hewson (52).

Garrison had 42 to earn medalist honors.

Oceanside 8, Erskine Academy 1

At Rockland Golf Club Sept. 6, the Mariners earned their third victory of the season. Oceanside finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 197 to 238 for Erskine Academy.
