Panthers eighth, Lions ninth, as York swings to state Class B title

Medomak Valley's Sebrey ties for sixth, Murphy 14th; Belfast's Parker 17th

Vassalboro — Medomak Valley and Belfast golfers teed it up against the most talented Class B teams in Maine on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the state championships as the Panthers and Lions finished eighth and ninth among 11 teams at the Natanis Golf Course.

York drove, chipped and putted to the state title with a four-golfer, 18-hole stroke total of 342.

The team scores were: York 342, Freeport 352, Leavitt of Turner 362, Cape Elizabeth 366, Old Town 373, Hermon 374, Waterville 380, Medomak Valley 385, Belfast 393, Mount Desert Island 403 and Gardiner 415.

Among the 65 Class B golfers, York's Tyler Rivers finished first at 4-over par 76. For Midcoast links athletes, Medomak Valley's Sean Sebrey finished at 86 and tied for sixth to lead the charge.

The individual results for the two Midcoast teams were:

Medomak Valley — Sebrey, 86 (tied for 6th); Carson Murphy, 91 (tied 14th); Garret Hutchins, 102 (tied 40th); Tyler Metcalf, 106 (tied 48th); Adam Berry, 116 (60th); and Merritt Gould, 129 (tied 64th).

Belfast — Thomas Parker, 92 (tied 17th); Tommy Walker and James Ritter, 94 (tied 24th); Bobby Banks, 113 (tied 57th); Casey Balicki, 124 (63rd); and Zach Sanderson, 129 (tied 64th).

In Class A, Mount Ararat of Topsham finished first at 325, while Greely of Cumberland was second at 327. Thorton Academy's Armand Ouellette finished first at 1-over par 73 among 66 golfers.

In Class C, Kents Hill finished first at 332, while Orono was second at 342. Kents Hill's Mitch Tarrio finished first at 2-over par 70 among 52 golfers.

The high school season concludes on Saturday, Oct. 12 with the state individual championships. at 10 a.m. back at Natanis.

For Midcoast student-athletes, Belfast's Ritter, Walker and Parker, Medomak's Murphy and Sebrey and Oceanside's Austin Chilles qualified earlier to participate in the state tourney.
