By Staff | Jul 04, 2019

Waldoboro — The Medomak Valley High School varsity baseball team had its best campaign in more than a decade in the spring, and it appears the junior varsity squad — if its 2019 season is any indication — will help the upper team reload next spring.

Led by coach Richie Oliver, the Panthers swung to an impressive 14-2 record, which included winning the final 11 games, including seven by mercy-rule.

Team members included Adam Berry, Colby Castner, Hayden Daigle, Andrew Pruell, Kyle Weinand, Travis Wyman, Noah Crosby, Isaac McCollett, Kallon Mortensen, Colvin Standring, Isaiah Staples, Colby Brown, Trystan Frances, Garret Hutchins and Ryan Jarvis.

The Panthers scored 156 runs, while allowing only 41.

Crosby was the team’s top hitter with a .442 batting average, while Pruell (.393), Hutchins (.359), Wyman (.347) and Mortensen (.309) also had superb offensive seasons for Medomak Valley.

On the mound, Crosby led the team in wins with five and added one save, while Berry (3-0), McCollett (3-0), Mortensen (2-1, 2 saves), Pruell (1-1, 1 save) and Wyman (2 saves) also had strong efforts on the mound for the Panthers.

Oliver said Castner, Staples, Daigle, Jarvis and Standdring were the team’s top defenders.

Medomak Valley had wins over Oceanside of Rockland (3), Morse of Bath (3), Camden Hills of Rockport (2), Lincoln Academy of Newcastle (2), Belfast (2), Winslow and Leavitt of Turner, while Mount Ararat of Topsham and Poland bested the Panthers on the season.
