Waldoboro — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Medomak Valley High School baseball team:

Coach/years coached current team: Scott Hastings, fourth year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 2-14, 17th in Eastern Class B. The Panthers did not qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Alex Benner (utility), Josh Lee (first base, outfield), Zach Little (utility), Nate Mazanec (utility), Michael Wadsworth (utility) and Jacob York (utility); juniors Bryce Collamore (second base), Tyler Emerson (pitcher, first base), Colton Spear (catcher, second base, outfield) and Micah Williamson (pitcher, shortstop); and sophomores Ollie Brown (catcher, outfield), Nicholas DePatsy (pitcher, infield), Patrick Madden (catcher, outfield), Riley McCollett (third base, shortstop, outfield), Ben Turner (outfield) and Adam Wilcox (pitcher, outfield).

Known graduation losses: Brandon Soper, Ryan Ripley, Kerry Madden and George Field.

Significant impact players: “I expect all players to have a role this season,” said Hastings. “It takes a team to win and we are very well-rounded. When one player struggles, there are others to step up.”

Team strengths: Focus and drive.

Team goal: To show significant improvement over last season.

Top league opponents: Belfast, Camden Hills of Rockport, Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Outlook: Hastings said his team is more focused than in years past and hopes to take the next step in the always-competitive Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B ranks.

“Last season was a disappointment for all of us that we don’t plan to repeat.” the coach said. “We are working hard to meet not only our team goal, but personal goals as well.”
