Isle au Haut — Alison Richardson and Molly Siegel recently finished their swim around Isle Au Haut with the goal of raising money toward the restoration of the island's historic lighthouse.

In just two months, these women were able to complete their swim and raise more than $16,500 of the $18,000 goal they set on their Gofundme campaign. As of Sept. 12, they had raised more than $17,000.

The Isle au Haut lighthouse has been in operation since 1907. Perched beside the mouth of the thoroughfare it is a beacon for boats, and a community landmark.

The tower is community-owned and is in need of a major restoration. Fundraising efforts have been going on for several years, with a goal of beginning the work in summer of 2020.

Starting from the granite base of the lighthouse tower, Richardson and Siegel swam roughly 18 miles clockwise around the island, returning back to the lighthouse.
