Painting, poetry workshops at Farnsworth

Rockland — The downtown Farnsworth Art Museum will host two weeklong workshops Monday through Friday, July 17 through 21, both in the Gamble Education Center, at the corner of Grace and Union streets.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, Ingrid Ellison will lead Conversations in Paint, in which participants will be encouraged to try new ideas and techniques to develop their unique “voices” through process and experimentation. All will be guided by a series of exercises that will hone the use of value, composition, color and more.

Ellison is a painter and arts educator working in oil, mixed media and printmaking. A graduate of Skidmore College with an MFA from American University, she has exhibited at CMCA, Åarhus Gallery, the University of Maine Bangor, the Cynthia Winings Gallery and AVA Gallery and Center for the Arts. Fee for this workshop is $430, $375 for Farnsworth members.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, award-winning poet will lead the annual summer workshop in reading and writing poems, this year focused on the life, writings and drawings of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. Daily group workshopping of poems will take place in a supportive environment. Cost for the workshop, open to poets and visual artists of all levels, is $195, $165 for Farnsworth members.
