Rockland — Local artist Nanfei Wang will lead a workshop in Chinese traditional painting Saturday, July 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Art Loft, 385 Main St., Suite 9 in the Thorndike Building.

Chinese traditional painting is based on the use of brushes, ink and Chinese painting colors on rice paper; and it uses subjects to convey artistic ideas and thought. In this workshop, participants will create the beautiful images of summer peonies and irises. Fee is $35.

July’s exhibiting resident artist Justin Kinney will offer the last in a series of Intro to Figure Painting classes Mondays, July 23 and 30 from 5 to 7 p.m.; and Wednesday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. These classes are free to members, $20 drop-in for nonmembers. Appropriate for all levels, this series guides participants through the steps necessary to accurately paint and draw the human form.

Kinney also will lead a Paint Night evening Friday, July 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will enjoy snacks, socializing and step-by-step painting of an “Under the Sea” image. Free is $35, and snacks are provided; bringing one’s own snacks and beverages encouraged (beer and wine is fine). Space is limited.
