Paint Night, photography workshops at Art Loft

Jul 07, 2017
“Beached Boat” is the subject of the next Paint Night at The Art Loft in Rockland.

Rockland — Sean Boyd will lead the next Paint Night at The Art Loft, the downtown nonprofit arts center at 385 Main St., Suite 9 (lobby level of Thorndike building). The fun evening of painting, no experience required, and socializing will result in a take-home “Beached Boat” art work Friday, 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Snacks will be served, and participants are welcome to BYOB. Cost is $35, which includes all materials.

On Friday, July 21, Karen Olson will instruct a 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. workshop on Camera Settings and Light for Lifestyle and Still Life Photography. Lifestyle and still life photography have become a key aspect in promoting business on social media, a necessary skill in this digital age, and it can be an enjoyable process. Participants will learn camera settings specific to the genre, exploring ISO, F-stop and the direction of natural light. An array of props will be available; and a demonstration and practice session on composition and design will enhance abilities. Cost is $60.

On Saturday, July 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, Olson will instruct a Getting Started with Lightroom workshop. Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop CC photography plan, the premier software used by professional photographers, is an affordable option for hobby photographers and aspiring artists. This is a quick-start workshop designed to get participants editing their images directly, whether from a DSLR or the new iPhone 7.

Participants will need a collection of several images on their camera or iPhone; and a laptop with the Adobe Photography Plan downloaded. Cost for workshop is $35.
