Paint, felt, Surrender at The Art Loft

Artist and educator Erika Manning will introduce non-objective painting techniques designed to help access creative energy and unleash hidden potential during an Art Loft workshop. Pictured is her “Horizon,” an acrylic on paper.

Rockland — October art options continue at The Art Loft, 385 Main St., Suite 9, in the downtown Thorndike building.

On Thursday, Oct. 19, Justin Kinney will lead a “Vintage Pumpkins” Paint Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will mix socializing with step-by-step painting that results in a canvas to take home, even by those who have never painted before. Snacks will be served; feel free to BYOB, wine or beer is fine. Cost is $35.

Friday night, Oct. 20, the Art Loft will host another Art Social — an opportunity to try out a new medium while relaxing with friends new and old — from 6 to 8 p.m. Jamie Fowler will lead attendees in needle felting one-of-a-kind bird nests using soft wool with realistic accents of dried moss, string or yarn, sticks and real feathers. All materials, including the wool, felting needles and feathers, will be provided; and bringing one’s own embellishments is welcome. Cost is $35.

Erika Manning is an artist and educator who steps out of her comfort zone every time she makes her artwork. Saturday, Oct. 21, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., she invites workshop participants to do the same and Surrender to Creativity. Students of all abilities and backgrounds will be encouraged to immerse themselves in “beginner mind,” let go of ego and surrender to the moment. Cost for the painting workshop is $45.

Upcoming at the nonprofit art center are a “Yellow Bike” Paint Night led by Kim Nicoll Friday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. ($35); and a Narrative Still Life Crash Course painting workshop led by Tanya Harsch Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. ($45).
