Waldoboro — It has been seven years since Medomak Valley graduate Dustin Osier died in a single-vehicle crash weeks after receiving his high school diploma.

And the memory of the talented three-sport athlete remains in the forefront for many — particularly around the holidays — as the seventh annual Dustin J. Osier Memorial Alumni Basketball Games tipped off on Saturday night, Dec. 30.

Two games were on the docket as Blue prevailed over Gold in the alumni and alumnae contests, respectively.

Event organizer Missy Dean said $1,375 was raised on the evening through concessions, various raffles and donations.

Over the years, in addition to various 5-kilometer races and horseshoe tournaments also in Osier’s name, Dean estimates nearly $30,000 has been raised, which has been given back in the form of college scholarships for MVHS graduates.

The full team rosters from the alumni games were:

Blue team (girls) — Chelsea Ripley (2017), Miranda Belcher (2016), Alanna Vose (2012), Kasey Benner (2011) and Lindsay Ranquist (2011). The Blue team was aided by event organizer Missy Dean and fifth-grader Dominic Vose, who helped spell the five Panther alumnae at times with valuable substitutions.

Gold team (girls) — Kayleigh Curtis (2016), Emily Leary (2016), Mallory Conary (2012), Miranda Conary (2008), Justice Barrows (2016) and Leila Dyer (1984).
