Waldoboro — The second annual Dustin John Osier Alumni Basketball Games are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 28 at Medomak Valley High School. In the case of inclement weather, the makeup games will be Sunday, Dec. 30 at the same times.

The Panther alumni games will include games at 6 p.m. (women), 7 p.m. (younger men) and 8 p.m. (older men).

Proceeds will go into a college scholarship fund from which monies will be awarded to 2013 graduating MVHS seniors. The first DJO event raised enough money to award six $1,000 scholarships for students to pursue their secondary education.

This year, MVHS officials decided not to host their traditional annual alumni games and "graciously offered to combine their alumni games with the DJO alumni games in an effort to raise money in Dustin's name," said Missy Dean, organizer of the Osier games.

"I am so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community who come together during this time of year to support this event in Dustin's name," Dean said. "[MVHS athletic director] Matt Lash and [MVHS Principal] Harold Wilson have been instrumental with allowing us to have the games at MVHS. As promised, this will be an annual event in an effort to keep [Osier's] memory and spirit alive."

Those interested in playing in the games should call Dean at 975-2353. The cost to play will be $10 per player. In addition, the admission cost for spectators for the games will be $5 for most and $3 for senior citizens.

Additionally, contributions can be made to the Dustin J. Osier Athletic Memorial Fund, Camden National Bank, 1768 Atlantic Highway, Waldoboro, Maine 04572.

The games are in memory of Osier, a MVHS three-sport student-athlete, who died in an automobile accident Aug. 19, 2011.
